Afaa Michael Weaver on the Cover of Poets and Writers

This is a letter I recently sent to my friend, the poet Afaa Michael Weaver, after seeing him on the cover of the new Poets and Writers:
Mike,
What a genuine thrill it is to stroll into Barnes and Noble on Rittenhouse Square (a bookstore I generally try to avoid, my haunt being The Last Word in west Philly) and see your handsome mug gazing kindly and heroically out from the cover of Poets and Writers (a magazine I generally try to avoid, my poison being the TLS and New Criterion). Congratulations, if, indeed, any are in order. I think it’s about time they put a real hero on the cover of that rag! You look like a star.
