E-Verse Ways to Say Someone’s Not a Genius, Continued

A few peas short of a casserole
A few keys short of a piano
Not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree
The gates are down and the lights are flashing, but the train isn’t coming
Room temperature IQ
Couldn’t pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel
Not the brightest crayon in the box
One twist short of a slinky
Depriving some village of its idiot
A few threads short of a sweater
A few sandwiches short of a picnic
Driveway doesn’t quite reach the road

An E-Verser Writes in About Capability Brown and JFK’s Sister Kathleen

August 20th, 2008

E-Verser Dr. Mitchell writes in from the UK:

Thought you might find this interesting. My dad and I visited a very beautiful village called Edensor near the stately home of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Chatsworth is the ancestral seat of the Dukes of  Devonshire (of the Cavendish family) and the grounds were landscaped by the renowned Capability Brown.

Anyway, Edensor to this day houses the residential community that work the estate and includes an intrinsic parish vicar at the archetypal English church. In the churchyard there is an enclosure wherein reside the departed members of the Cavendish pedigree. John F Kennedy’s sister Kathleen married the brother of the Duke (who carried the title of Marquess of Hartington) in early 1940s and passed away in 1948 at the tender age of 28. During a state visit to the UK in 1963, JFK himself flew into Edensor to pay his respects, and this detail is commemorated also, in light of his own tragic early death and goodly reputation.

A real surprise for me.

Coolest Barbie I’ve Seen

June 27th, 2008

Yes! This is a Barbie version of Tippi Hedren’s character Melanie Daniels in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1963 psycho-thriller The Birds, based on the Daphne Du Maurier short story (adapted for the screen by Evan Hunter). It’s a bit pricey for me, but I think it’s very cool. It could use a bit more blood, but it will do. Click on the doll to buy it.
