Sir Alec Guinness is the perfect reader of Eliot’s poetry. His readings are clear and wonderfully nuanced, bringing forth the emotional power of the poems. So much attention is paid to the ideas and allusions in Eliot’s poems that it is easy to forget how beautiful they sound. It is a real pleasure to hear his lines delivered by such a gifted actor. Guinness makes them sing.
