Firebird Motel (libretto by David Yezzi) is a chilling tale of murder, hopelessness and rebirth set against the backdrop of a lonely, dilapidated motel in a forgotten corner of the Mojave Desert. A cast of characters who have long since abandoned the hope for a better life are confronted by a murderous, corrupt lawman and a ghostly warning that calls them to end a deadly cycle of violence.
The idea of confronting cycles of hopelessness is given an absolutely revolutionary treatment in America Tropical (libretto by Oliver Mayer), which follows famous Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896–1974) as he uses the transforming power of art to tell the tumultuous history of the city of Los Angeles.
The production team of Blake Smith, director; James Allen Anderson, conductor; and Eddy Seger, scenic designer creates a stimulating visual and multimedia universe to accommodate the unique content of these powerful works.
Firebird Motel and America Tropical produced by arrangement with ECS Publishing.
