While I was out in New Mexico recently, E-Verse producer Paul posted this funny viral video, and several variants, in which awed hikers gush enthusiastically at the sight of an ever elusive double rainbow. Like most people, the first thing I think of when someone mentions double rainbows is John Constable’s 1812 oil “Landscape with Two Rainbows.” However, it seems this hand-held, poor-quality video is beginning to eclipse poor Constable and his striking, sublime painting. In fact, funnyman Jimmy Fallon recently posed as venerable singer Neil Young in this clip. Who knows when it will end? Or has it already? Perhaps Constable will regain his ascendency in our pantheon of double rainbows.
