I’m working on a small comic book called Epitaphs with the artist Robert Algeo. Lynn and I like to visit cemeteries. Our first date was at Woodland Cemetery in Philadelphia. (For Lynn, Halloween is like Christmas, July 4th, and her birthday all rolled into one.) With Halloween fast approaching, we decided to visit some cemeteries to get images for Algeo to base his headstones on (I supply the epitaphs). Here are a few examples.
The above photo shows the grave of the fictional character Adrian Balboa from the Rocky movies. A headstones was placed in Laurel Hill Cemetery for the scenes in the movies when Rocky visits her grave.
I have gone. Don’t be vexed.
You mourn, but you may be next.
Move on, enjoy the day.
I’d love to, but I must stay.
Don’t linger. Life is tough.
I’ll see you soon enough.
You may think I watch you.
I’ve got too much to do.
Like sunlight on the grass,
We move slowly and pass.
I may have left no clue.
Don’t cry. I miss you too.
Come. Sit down. Stay a while.
You can’t tell, but I smile.
